As children we learn our self-worth as we grow form newborn to the beginning of school age from our parents. Studies have shown that disfunction with the parents can lead to suicide (Wu et al,. 2025). When a child is neglected by their parents socially from little communication, always being put down, their parents never wanting them around it causes them to begin to believe that they do not matter. For some children this age they will begin to act out to get attention. It could be from bad behavior or intentionally doing thing that will hurt them to get attention. As they begin school, they may not form any friendships or able to keep friends from not knowing how to act socially

When first attending school

As they begin school, they may not form any friendships or able to keep friends from not knowing how to act socially. As this begins to happen, they may become targets to bullying and being made fun of. For some children, they just let it happen to them and slowly close themselves off to others. Many times, they are so quiet they will unintentionally go unnoticed by the teachers for the most part.  This will continue throughout the elementary years.

Teenage years

When a child that has endured the social and emotional abuse they have endure over the years, they will now see themselves in a negative light. They will tend to want to be left alone. They will be defensive and begin to believe they have no self-worth. They will begin to believe the world will be a better place without them. You may begin to see early signs of self-harm they have done to themselves. The bullying will become more severe adding to their belief that nobody cares about them. For some they may begin to have thoughts of ending all the pain.
